Purchased in 1971 when Babička and Děda visited the USSR. The Exakta was an innovative camera company that wound up on the other side of the Iron Curtain after WWII. The VX1000 was the top of the line model and sports a beautiful viewing prism that gives the kind of ground glass focus of large format cameras.
John Duder gives a much better description and history than I ever could at ephoto magazine and you can browse the user manual at Mike Butkus' page.
